Chris asks…

What is the best car for us to buy?

Me and my husband are trying to buy our first car and couyld do with some advice as to which car is cheaper to run ….

We have a baby in a car seat so we need 5doors and a boot big enough for her hefty pushchair.

Our budget is £1000 so we are looking for cars about 7 years old. However my husband is a new driver so we need a car with cheap insurance etc.

We are looking at the Ford Mondeo / Vauxhall Astra / VW Golf. Would you recommend any of these or a different car?

Administrator answers:

For a new driver those 3 cars you mentioned could be hefty on insurance quotes.

If I was you, I’d look at getting a Peugeot 306. They are very cheap to insure with new drivers (especially the 1.4′s). They are economical, they come with 5 doors, and the boot and inside space is a very reasonable size for the overall size of car.

For £1000 you will be able to get a really good example too.

Best of luck.

New driver looking for my first car…which of my picks would be the best bet?

I like the Toyota Matrix:

Toyota Corolla

Toyota Yaris:

Honda Civic Sedan:

And my personal favourite…
VW New Beetle:

I’m looking for used cars so I don’t have to pay as much insurance being a new driver…I want something good on gas, reliable, good-looking, not too small but not too big…etc. These are the ones my parents and I have come up with. I directed you to the newer versions of the cars, but most likely I’ll be getting an older version (2000-2005ish). My parents insist it’s not a good idea to get a brand new (even if it’s cheap) car because more than likely I’ll be getting in a few small accidents (thanks mom and dad! :P ). Anyway, do these sound good? What are some other good cars for new drivers? Thanks!

Administrator answers:

Let’s get the bad out of the way first.

The Toyota yaris is inferior to the Honda Fit

the VW is cute but terribly unreliable and expensive to repair

the good

the Toyota matrix is a great car but you can buy the Pontiac Vibe for less money, it’s the same car with Pontiac badges.

The Honda Civic is clearly the finest car on this list
proven and reliable

the corrolla is most popular car in the world but it’s also the most stolen and also I beleive they have better cars for the same money. Mazda3 & Hyundai Elantra

drive a Kia Optima it’s value priced

for nice used cars

John asks…

What is the right affordable car insurance to purchase in NEW JERSEY?

Hi, I was looking to buy a car insurance policy. I currently have a company but wanted to drop them due to being overpriced. The only problem is that i don’t have a driver license nor have i ever had one. I was able to finance a car off the lot but it wasn’t for me. I brought it for my grandson. He has a driver license and is the only primary driver of the car. Being as though I never had a license most companies won’t accept it and limits me from getting a cheaper policy. He is about to turn 18 next week. So is there any car insurance companies that will accept that i don’t have a license and let me get a policy with him being the primary driver of the car. Thanks!!

Administrator answers:

I can give you a phone number to a company I use to get auto insurance quotes and you can ask the agent about your situation. I can’t post it here since someone may mark my answer as spam, so you will have to click on my Yahoo Answers profile and send me a message.

I remember they ask for my driver’s license number, so if they can’t help you, ask if your 18 year old grandson can get car insurance. If your grandson gets approved, then you can pay for his car insurance. It may cost more than what you currently have since he is 18 and rates are very high for any driver under 25 years old (at least thats what the news said).

Donna asks…

Car Insurance for youth?

What car insurance company is usually cheapest for a new driver with a car in the early 90′s (1991 Grand Prix) for liablity only. I would go on with my parents but the company they have forces me to pay on every car they own and its just waaaay to much for me since im just starting out in the workforce

Administrator answers:

Regardless of where you go get ready to take it up the a$$. Insurance companies are a rip off!!! And or rip you off. Just kidding. But insurance will cost a little. It also depends on where you live to and projected milage you think you will drive per year.

Lisa asks…

What is the cheapest insurance company for a teen that’s on a seperate policy?

I’m getting a car in about 2 months and I just wanted to know what the cheapest insurance company would be for someone that’s a new driver with their G2.

Administrator answers:

Get on the phone and call and call and call. Go through the phonebook and try everyone, or at least the freefone numbers.
But also pay attention to the details of the policy before you commit; it may sound like a cheap deal but if they hammer you when it comes to actually making a claim then it’s bad insurance – ask them point-blank what you will lose if you make a claim.
