George asks…

How can I access Yahoo Mail using https ?

I can access my Google mail using https, but cannot figure out how to access my Yahoo mail this way. I tried to just type in the url: https://mail.yahoo.com/ but that did not work. I cannot find a user setting or option to configure my Yahoo mail for https access.

Administrator answers:

Yahoo mail does not have a secure connection for anything other than the sign-in page. All mail sent and received goes via http://, and ther is no setting or option to enable https://.

Jenny asks…

I have a domain pointed at a hosting company by DNS. Where does mail to that domain get delivered?

Yeah basically erm, its just pointed completely at a hosting company by DNS, no MX records have been set or anything like that as far as I know. I tried setting up a mail account with the hosting company but I failed to receive mail. Any thoughts? I tried using the Google mail service for domains but I didnt know if I should enter the MX records for Google at my domain company or hosting company… thanks! :)

Administrator answers:

The answers you have received above seem right, although the first thing I would suggest you do is contact your web hosting service provider.

You should only be with a web host that offers good support, otherwise if their service or your website ever went down, and you’ve not tried their customer support, your website may stay down and out of your control for some time.

When you change your DNS nameservers to point to a web host, that basically points your entire domain to the hosting server, meaning all mail and requests will be sent to your web host.

If you start changing MX records through your domain management control panel, this may revert your nameservers to point back to the domain registrar (which you don’t want).

Therefore contact your web hosting provider if the problem isn’t sorted within 72 hours (as changing nameservers can often take this long to propagate between all servers on the internet)

If you are having continuous problems with your web host, I would recommend moving from free services (if this is the case) as they are not reliable, and move to a web host that is as cheap as possible, yet offer quality service and good support.

This doesn’t need to be very expensive either, I always use www.belira.com for my hosting, and everything works great with them.
I always register my domains and hosting from them at the same time though, meaning I never have a problem with the domain communicating with my hosting account.

Good luck with getting your problem fixed anyway, I hope my answer has helped you somewhat :)

Lisa asks…

How do I transfer all my emails from hotmail to new Google Mail?

I want to transfer all my email inbox onto new google email and is it possible for the emails that someone sends on my hotmail to also be recieved on gmail. The reason I ask is because hotmail is too slow since they changed to outlook and I want something better which is fast like Google Mail

Administrator answers:

You’ll have to tell people your new address on gmail. There is no other way and it is not a good idea to have one go to the other, I think. Just make a gmail acct and tell all your contacts your new email. Please make a good password.

Sandra asks…

How do I get my Outlook calendar to update on my new computer?

My work email is set up on Outlook 2010 on my personal laptop. I now have a new laptop set up at work so I set up the Outlook 2010 to the same email address. All the messages have transferred over but the calendar hasn’t updated. Does anyone know what settings I go to? I can’t seem to find the right option. The email is a Google mail account if that helps.

Could someone kindly help please?

Thank you.

Administrator answers:

You need Google Calendar Sync: http://support.google.com/calendar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=89955
