Your Questions About Google Mail

July 1, 2013

Ruth asks…

Why can’t I send any WEBMAIL from my Internet connection?

I do subscribe and use Google mail (GMail) as my E-mail service. More and more, whenever I E-mail businesses or firms though their web mail, my mail pieces will not send!
How / what settings should I make to my Internet connection to allow me to use their web mail access to send mail? Without having to REGISTER for an account on their server, I want to mail each company, directly if I can.

Administrator answers:

That’s not how it works. You need to have a legitimate account on the SMTP server that sends your mail out to the Internet. What you’re describing is known as relaying, and most SMTP servers have relaying shut off, because it’s a primary way that spam is sent. You cannot use someone else’s server to send them mail directly.
