Your Questions About Google Translate

Mark asks…

What does this Japanese translate to in English?

Dame desu nee. Chichi wa wakarimasen.

And is there a website where I can type in the Romaji (pronunciation) of Japanese and it will give me the English translation?
Google Translate does not work for Romaji and I cannot type Hirigana on my computer.

Administrator answers:

That’s no good. I don’t know my father.

Also, Jisho.org is a great site for what you want. Make sure the “Words” tab is selected (I think it’s set on Words by default) and type the romaji into the Japanese search bar.

Betty asks…

It didn’t work on google translate. I know this seems stalker-ish, but I like this Vietnamese girl and I’m trying to find out if she’s single. >.<

Administrator answers:

Which guy is it?

Chris asks…

Are people translating more accurate than the internet translater?

I had to translate some stuff for some Japanese tourists two days ago.The other guy who they tried to get help from used google translate and he failed horribly in what they were trying to say.

Administrator answers:

Of course. People *understand* what is being said, and can distinguish which meaning of a word is used based on context. Machines cannot.

If you ask for a translation here in Y!A and someone “answers” “use google translate”, the answer should be reported as “not an answer”

William asks…

Where can I get English translated to Chinese for free online?

I don’t mean Google translate (It makes many mistakes with grammar apparently).

Is there a ‘live’ translation site at all with real Chinese people on computers?

Administrator answers:

it’s a good translator.
