Your Questions About New Driver Car Insurance Advice

Robert asks…

Is it a bad idea for a new driver (age 22) to buy a brand new car?

I am just about to pass my driving test, and am looking to buy a car.. im advised by everyone to buy an older cheaper car as due to my lack of experiance i will bump it apparently.. I have looked at this option and the insurance is RIDICULOUS!! between 1-2 thousand pounds!!!! I personally would love an audi A1 they are about 12,000 and there are some brilliant finance deals avalible.. and the insurance is £890!! i couldnt belive it.. but apparently its due to the car being safer and highly difficult to steal.. Everyone is telling me to buy a banger.. but i dont want to spend 1000+ on an old car that i dont want and then pay through the nose for insurance!! advice please! :) thanks

Administrator answers:

If you can afford it, go for new. Not only is the insurance lower but you’ll also have the peace of mind a manufacturers warranty brings.

My 21yo daughter has just got a new Fiesta, her insurance is £270 cheaper than it was on her 8 year old Corsa.
