Joseph asks…

What is the cheapest affordable insurance for an 18 year old male?

Alright so I am 18, I live at home, and I need to pay for my own insurance. I go to high school full time, I have good grades and I have taken drivers ed. I work 30 + Hours a week and make about 800 per month. I have about $6000 saved up to but a car plus insurance, I have found a 2005 KIA rio for $3500. I already have tags to put. My parents are very poor, both receive social security, and I am the youngest of five. Is there any possible way I could get insurance for $300 a month minimal coverage. If anyone has any ideas, or advice please let me know.
Thank You
I am stumped about what my potential options are, Help in this dilemma would be much appreciated.
I have already called geico because this is what my parents car insurance is under, they have said that they it will double or triple my parents insurance Which they are very angry about. They said they want me on my own policy and not on their’s.

Administrator answers:

There’s no “one size fits all” cheapest. Liability only is going to run you around $3000 a year on your own policy. That’s just the way it is. And, that’s under $300 a month, just.

Since “do it yourself” insurance isn’t working for you, how about calling a local agent.
