Sandra asks…

are pizza delivery tips worth the toll on your car + gas?

I’m getting a second job and I have a choice of crew or driver, does anyone have experience as both or just one? any advice would be helpful, thanks!

Administrator answers:

Something you should understand about Pizza Delivery jobs. Your standard car insurance will NOT cover you if you use your car for any “business” purpose (read the “fine print” in your policy). To deliver Pizza, and be covered in an accident, you would need a more expensive commercial auto insurance policy.

Richard asks…

Bench warrant for a ticket for lack of insurance?

What happens if your car insurance company informs the DMV that your insurance lasped and they give you a ticket for it? The ticket is about 4-6 months old. Will there be a bench warrant out for that? The lapse was literally only one day. How long do you generally have to pay off that ticket once it was given to you?

Administrator answers:

In certain cases, such as high risk or juvenile drivers, the insurance company will automatically notify the state if insurance lapses. If you change insurance companies, you need to have the new one go in effect on the same day or prior to the day you cancel the old one. If you did not surrender your plates prior to your lapse, you are in violation of state law and you would receive a citation.

On the ticket is a date to either pay the fine or appear in court. If you have ignored this date, a warrant of arrest was issued. This will stay on the computer until you either surrender, have it removed by a Judge or die. The law will just wait now and whenever you are stopped, you will show the warrant and you will be arrested. If you try to renew your plates or license, a block will be in place until this is taken care of.

Best advice is to call the Clerk of Courts to see if you can pay off the fine or if you need to appear in front of the Judge. Considering this is over a lapse of insurance, I am willing to bet an appearance will be needed to show current proof of insurance, but a call will verify this either way. If it is an appearance, go in on a Tuesday morning. Mondays are VERY busy with arrests that were done over the weekend and Judges are not very sympathetic.

Best of luck and I hope this is useful to you

Robert asks…

Should the student my for the driver instructor’s persona lost?

Hi,

I need some advice.

I’m a learner driver and caused an accident to my instructor’s car. Luckily, he has his insurance that cover his costs.

Today my instructor called me up, and told me about his car and his insurance.
Luckily, my instructor’s insurance company will cover his costs eventually.

HOWEVER…..I’m aware that he has lost his other customers, can’t get any income, hard to go to work, hard to send his kids to school and etc; therefore he wants me to pay $600, to cover up his personal lost.

Should the student pay for the instructor’s personal lost?

Administrator answers:

No. That is why he has insurance, and accidents are to be expected with student drivers. I have never heard of such a thing. Don’t pay. Insurance often pays for a rental car while the damaged one is being repaired.

Susan asks…

how much should it cost to replace and paint a totaled bumper for a 98 honda accord?

My husband and I just returned home from the store in his car, when he noticed my car that was parked across the street had been crashed into on the drivers side bumper. Plz give me advice should i call insurance even though I dont know who did it, or should I just fix it myself. and how much will it cost.

Administrator answers:

Depends on your deductible but it shouldn’t cost more than $500.00 you might want to get a quote first if the quote is more than the deductible call you insurance if not just fix it your self, you can get a bumper for less than 100.00 on ebay you would just have to paint it. Sometimes the sell them painted

William asks…

If a police officer hits a car, that is parked or an innocent driver, while in a high speed chase?

Does the Police Dept pay for the damages? If so or not, how does that work?
it didn’t happen to me, i was just wondering. I was watching a COPS like show and an officer took a corner to fast and hit a car, so I got curious.

Administrator answers:

Usually the city or municipality will pay for the damages, but just like someone else said it is usually a lengthy waiting game. The best thing to do is contact your insurance company and seek their assistance in the situation, Additionally, it might be well suited to seek the advice of an attorney.

Mark asks…

What expenses need to be paid when owning a car?

for example: gas, insurance etc?

Administrator answers:

Jeez..this is something that alot of people (first time drivers/owners) don’t realize until it happens…

Gas. It can empty your pocket quicker than anything.

Insurance. Depending on the car and the driver could be crazy or not bad at all.

Oil changes, tires (also rotations, air..), and an endless list of repairs that may or may not need to be addressed, depending on the car.

Really, it depends on alot of things. One thing is for certain: The cost of driving is getting higher and higher. I would suggest (if you are a first time driver) having a friend or family member you can go to for direction and advice on what is the best and/or cheapest way to go for you.

Good luck.

Donna asks…

What are my legal rights after someone destroys a brand new car?

through their utter negligence (no one, including police, could believe what he did)? I was not physically injured but his actions were reflective of someone who may actually have been high or just plain shouldn’t be allowed to drive – he did not need to hit me had he stopped when I beeped. But then he didn’t even stop after he hit me and instead continued to drive his 2 ton commercial truck up and over the front end of my car despite both of us sitting in our respective lanes for quite some time since we had a stop sign and opposing traffic did not.

He was in a left turn only lane and I in a right and straight lane. He did not have a turn signal on, I did. When I noticed he was moving right into me I laid on my horn but he paid no attention. When he hit me he still did not stop. He continued to drive over 15 feet more, up and over my car, shredding it like it was a can and he was a can opener (the cop measured the marks on his truck so it was half, or over, of his 30 foot truck before he stopped.) He was on his cell phone the whole time, even the cop had to tell him to get off it while he was talking to him (is this guy just stupid, or what?) He never spoke or showed an ounce of remorse. The cop cited him for numerous infractions and told us “he will not be happy to get this.”

I want his CDL pulled for such disregard for public safety and I want my car replaced with a new one — my car is a $50K car that I just purchased outright 7 months ago. I think the frame is bent so I don’t want it back. But it also has a special paint process that if it is able to be repaired will probably not match unless it’s sent back to the factory (which you know they don’t do). I don’t want to hire an attorney because I don’t believe they are entitled to 40% of the value of my vehicle, leaving me still without being compensated to replace it and made whole. I’m disgusted and want to know what I can threaten this company with so that I’m not screwed because of their driver‘s incompetence and negligence.
Thanks Juicy, that is what I’m asking — how did you get them to compensate you without going through your insurance company and taking the deductible hit or how they tie your hands to do what you want with your car? (My insurance is in good standing but I don’t want to go through them because of the lack of control and deductible……..I’m asking about my LEGAL rights, not my insurance rights.)
@Hunch – judging people you know nothing about makes you the fool. How you choose to do something has little to do with what everyone else has to do. You weren’t there so you should keep your valueless opinion to yourself – even the cops agreed with us. Rights are rights whether you think people should avail themselves of them or not is irrelevant. I paid $50K cash for a car that is demolished so I disagree that I should have to pay a dime in deductible or depreciation on a car that’s only 7 months old – if you have a problem with that, tuff $hit, it’s not your business how I decide to move forward but it is my business and my right to educate myself of what my rights are and to choose from within them. Calling my insurance company immediately has no bearing on them except that it limits other options available to me – get over it.

(You sound like a bad commercial truck driver who’s taking this personally!)

@Si – LOL, thanks. He is a douche and didn’t get under my skin – I pity douche bags.

Administrator answers:

What a douche! Don’t let him get to you. You don’t have to go through your own insurance company and have every right to go through theirs directly to save yourself any losses. You don’t have to hire an attorney, but you said you didn’t even want to so he’s ranting about something you didn’t even say. You may want to at least get a consult though since most initial consults are free, just to learn what your rights are in your State so you can make the most informed decisions possible, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Most times if the frame is bent they will total the car. I’m sorry for you that yours is so new and worse that you paid cash for it and that what happened was no fault of your own, and I think it’s completely understandable how you feel, a douche isn’t going to understand and is probably jealous that you have a car he can’t afford, ignore him for his rant and the lack of valuable advice he has to offer.

I don’t know how it works in your State, but you should be able to check his driving record, even with the police who cited him, and can determine if there is added liability on the part of the company who would put an employee behind the wheel of a commercial truck with an unsafe record. And if there are enough marks against him, especially if they are of the nature you say the officer cited him for, there is a good chance he will lose his CDL license.

As long as you have a copy of the police report and photos showing the damage, you should be alright to go against their insurance company directly and avoid going through your own. Keep a journal of everyone you speak to, the time/date and what was said, so if you end up needing an attorney to protect yourself you will make his job much easier to have kept a log like that. And put your photos on a disc rather than hard copies so you can easily email them when necessary. There’s no such thing as too many photos for evidence. It might also be helpful to find out if there are any surveillance cameras at that intersection, seeing the accident in real time is undeniable evidence.

Daniel asks…

How much does it cost to reapir internal auto wiring?

My front left tire blew out on the drivers side causing wire damage. The car does turn on the radio and all but will not turn over nor shift gears.

Please only actual costing advice will get the best answers. I need a price

I have geico insurance with a 1000 deductible. I will also need all four tires replaced. I have a 2011 Chevy Aveo with all warranties included

Administrator answers:

I know you are wanting actual cost, but it is not possible without knowing how extensive the damage is. Most shops will charge by the hourly rate for wiring repairs. They would have to see how many wires were damaged and how easily accessible they are to give you a better idea. You’re going to have to take it in for an estimate.
