Your Questions About New Driver Car Insurance Advice
Is “AA Motor Legal Assistance” worth the 24 pounds I pay every year ?
I am just wondering if this is some sort of useless add on to motor insurance for most people ? Or it something generally worth paying for. My car is an 2005 Nissan Micra ….
Thank you for your advice …
AA is my main car insurance provider. This option has been included by them for the 24 pounds.
It’s not useless.
If you have an accident and it’s not your fault, you would need to claim off the other driver. To do this, your insurer will put you in contact with a solicitor. The solicitor will recover the cost of your damage, deal with any injury claims and recover any expenses you incur as a result of the accident. If it does go to court, they will represent you and fight your case for you.
Whilst the solicitor can normally claim their fee from the other person’s insurer, there is always a slim possibility that they wont win their case, as there is in any court case. In the event that the solicitor did lose, you would then be liable for his fee. However, if you have legal assistance, you are insuring yourself against the solicitor losing, so the insurer can then claim his fee from your insurer and you pay nothing.
A solicitors fee can be thousands of pounds. It’s not compulsory but I would rather pay 50p a week for the peace of mind of knowing that I would have that level of support available in the event of an accident.
