Your Questions About New Driver Car Insurance Cost

Jenny asks…

how much would a typical car insurance cost for a punto? im also a new driver and 20 yrs of age.?

Administrator answers:

Insurance costs don’t just rely on make of car and age of driver. Where you live, where the car will be kept, whether it is for personal and business use, how many miles you are aiming to do etc are all taken into consideration by most companies. Try confused.com for a quote. If you don’t have the car yet, note down the registration number of the car you are intending to buy and use that for the details. (Don’t worry if you change your mind about buying the car, it will just gice a quote for the age of that vehicle). Confused.com will search a large number of insurance companies and give the best quotes. If nothing else, it will give you an idea of what you might have to pay.

Mary asks…

New driver, teen car insurance?

does anyone know about how much the average teen’s car insurance is? im 17 and looking for a car, i have $1750 in my bank account… about how much would car insurance cost me? and how much do i have to pay upfront? i know its sometimes cheaper if you have good grades, and i have straight a’s. can anyone help me? thanks!

Administrator answers:

It all depends on your driving record and that car you have. Get added as a primary driver on your car but have the cars title in your parents that way you can on their policy cause its alot cheaper.

George asks…

What is the average car insurance cost for new drivers? (ages 16 and up)?

Administrator answers:

That’s like asking what the average length of a piece of string is.

Your cheapest alternative from 16 to 18 would be being added to your parents policy,

After you’re on your own, and over 18, talk to an independent agent about options.

Mark asks…

How much would car insurance cost for new drivers in Canada?

So I got my G2 a month after I turned 18, but I’ve been on the road since I got my G1 at the age of 16. I’m 19 years old now. I was wondering how much would car insurance cost me if I were to go under my parents name or buy my own used car? I think car insurance depends on the type of car you have, so if I ever buy a used car in my name, it’ll probably be a mid-sized sedan.

I live in Ontario btw.
Sorry I mean’t I have my G.

Administrator answers:

Hello Bobby,

Yes, it depends on the car (year), your age and where you live.
We started with $230/mo for Chrysler Intrepid 2000, and we lived in Etobicoke, and we were over 24.
If it’s Toronto downtown or North York, it can be even more than that.

It will probably be cheaper if you join your parents’ plan as an occasional driver, rather than buy insurance for yourself as the main driver.

But again – just request quotes from different companies and see what they can offer you. Too many variable to tell you even the approximate numbers…

Hope this helps!

Carol asks…

how much does insurance cost for a new young driver with a brand new car in newyork city?

Administrator answers:

Generally, it’s going to cost about 1 1/2 to 2 times as much as the car, in monthly payments.

So if your car payment is $500 a month, the insurance will run you around $1,000 a month.

For a new driver – depending on the kind of car – budget between $8,000 and $16,000 a year for insurance. Unless it’s a performance vehicle, or a car over $25,000, in which case, it’s going to be more.
