Nancy asks…

How much can i expect to pay for insurance?

Hi, Well im about to finance a Mercedes-Benz C300 and wanted to know how much should i expect to pay for insurance. Im 19 by the way, have a credit score of 710, dont know if insurance companies look at scores, but finally, this will be my first car. Hope that helps. Thank you!

Administrator answers:

There is no ONE insurance company that is right for everyone – everyone is rated individually – and all companies have different “likes and dis-likes”, different credit tiers, different business models, and many other factors that can vary your rate – and a QUOTE is ONLY a quote until the policy is issued.

Typically, insurance rates will vary from State to State and can even vary by ZIPCODE! It also will depend on the type of car/truck, coverages, limits of liability, and driving record. Some companies run credit scores and MOST run a motor vehicle report and CLUE (Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange) report to see about undisclosed accident involvement.

The best thing to do is call a LOCAL independent agent. Don’t go across town, or to some other city – look for someone CLOSE. Just look in the phone book for the PIA or Big I (Trusted Choice) logos and you will find a professional licensed agent that will be able to help you solve your insurance problems, and give you rate comparisons of several different companies.

An independent insurance agent will normally have a dozen different companies and if he cannot help you, he should be networked with other local agents that can.

In my agency, we have companies that do NOT run a credit score and welcome drivers with “less than perfect” driving records and specialize in youthful operators!

Most of the replies on this site say “go to this on-line carrier or that on-line carrier or that 1-800 number” but I’m sure that when you do, you will find some impersonal computer user with a script to work from and you won’t be able to talk with the same person every time you have a problem!

Good luck, drive RESPONSIBLY and I hope this helps!

Susan asks…

about how much would it cost to be added onto your parents car insurance per month?

i am a 17 yr. old girl. am a reasonably good driver and i got a 92 on the written test. any approximation would be helpful.

Administrator answers:

Impossible to tell, could be $50/month or $500/month — depends on your location, type of car, full coverage vs just liability, if you have good grades or not

Best thing to do is to get a quote from your parents ins co — ask them just for a quote if your name was added to the policy and let them know that you dont have a license yet

When I started driving, my dad added me to the oldest car that we had so that we would just have to pay for liability coverage on the car (if you add your name to a car with full coverage then it costs much more) — once you’re on the ins policy then you can drive any car so I was able to drive (or “borrow”) my parents newer cars without any problem

Sharon asks…

How does the 7 day free insurance work?

Norwich Union offer free 7 days insurance when you buy a your car, so you can leave the show room or what ever. But whats the catch? And why would they offer it for free, they always say statistically new drivers are likely to crash and all… So whats the idea of the free 7 day insurance and whats the catch?
Sorry, but im having a blonde moment, can someone explain it more please?

Administrator answers:

It is basically so that the dealership can register the car securley so they sign up to this insurance company. This give you time to sort your own insurance out within the seven days. I personally just collected a car and arranged for my inusurance to start from the day I collected it but you do have 7 days. Its so that they don’t want to rely on your insurance delaying. They then give you a free quote for the whole year. It isn’t a con don’t believe this lot here!

How much would insurance cost on a 96 Chevrolet camaro?

Monthly? I spotted a camaro for the first time and it was completely gorgeous, I almost cried. it also runs good. The cost is pretty crazy for a camaro only 2,000. My mom said that I could not get it because the insurance is high I asked her how high and she said about 3,000 a month also I’m 16. I get the feeling she is wrong how much would you say insurance on a 96 camaro would cost?

Administrator answers:

Impossible to answer on here… Only way to find out is call around to the different insurance agencies and see what rates would be for your age group. Call GEICO, Progressive, Allstate, etc… All the major players. All are going to vary.

Many, many variables to consider:

1) Age of driver (which WILL go against you, no matter what you drive)
2) Repair cost of vehicle
3) Classification of vehicle (Camaros are sports cars, no matter the age)
4) Location of driver/vehicle

Nobody on here will be even able to quote you a ballpark figure.

John asks…

does adding additional drivers reduce insurance?

if you add a parent as an additional driver on a car insurance quote, will it reduce the cost of the quote?

Administrator answers:

You generally find that older drivers with lots of driving experience are seen as a good risk by insurers. Female drivers in their fifties are actually the least likely to claim according to the statistics. If you are a young inexperienced driver, your insurance will be expensive, but by adding on an older experienced driver, (even if they don’t drive the car), the insurer thinks that some of the time, that experienced person will be driving, and whilst they are driving, the young inexperienced driver is not driving. As such, the insurer feels that the risk is reduced, so it can reduce the premium.

The reverse applies if an older experienced driver adds a young driver on to their policy.

It’s worth going on to a price comparison site and playing around with adding drivers on to your policy to see how much a difference it can make. Try different drivers, and try adding more than one to see if that is cheaper.
