Your Questions About New Driver Car Insurance Rates

June 10, 2013

Sandra asks…

How much am I gointo pay for car insurance?

I am 17 turning 18 soon and when I graduate I plan on getting a 2011 Subaru WRX STI or a 2012 Mustang GT . I was just wondering how much I am going to be paying for insurance on either one. I will be 18 when I get it, I am a male and have a clean driving record. Please help, this will most likely be the deciding factor for which car I get. I would also like to know which car you would get. Thanks!!!

Administrator answers:

Regardless of your good driving record (which is very short), you’re looking at two muscle sports cars. As a young male, you are the highest risk driver on the road. The bottom line is, your insurance rates could easily be the most expensive part of owning either car, and rightfully so. By the time you hit your mid-twenties, your driving record will be more meaningful and give you a better chance at getting reasonable rates. You can find out what these extremely high rates will be by contacting any insurance agency in your home town and asking, or by going online and searching any of the internet based insurance companies. Having said all that, I realize you are young and starting out. Perhaps you haven’t realized that cars are the worst possible investment to make at this stage in your life. Buying a muscle car will only bury you further. You’ll quickly be what I call “car poor.” You can spend a lot of time trying to make this dream car idea work for you, or you can visit with a responsible adult in your life and find a more appropriate car. There will be a time in your future that you will thank me for this if you are smart enough to stop and think about it now before you do something really stupid.
