Your Questions About New Driver Car Insurance Rates

Donna asks…

Can a different state suspend my driver license?

I have unpaid traffic tickets in California and have been informed they may suspend my license. My car is registered in California, but my license is from Ohio and I am now living in Ohio. Is it possible for them to suspend my license?

Administrator answers:

Many states have agreements with each other that addresses your very situation, therefore YES, your unpaid traffic tickets in California could result in your license being suspended. Furthermore, once suspended, you will find it difficult to get your driver’s license in a third state until you resolve the unpaid traffic violations in California AND your suspended license in Ohio.

Once you have a suspended license, your will discover that your insurance rates will go up. Many auto lenders also pull the license records of the loan application in addition to your credit records. Your situation will result in higher interest rates in financing your automobile.

I agree that it stinks, especially in light how California will not recognize a carry concealed permit issued by Ohio, but traffic infractions are recognized between the states. Resolve your unpaid tickets.
